Johanna Konta registered a dramatic Centre Court triumph against world no.1 and two-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber to reach the semi-finals.
Yet a heavy fall on match point took the tarnish off the well-earned victory by the British no.1, who took a tumble attempting a return and was clearly distressed with a bump to her head that required medical treatment. But after a five-minute delay Konta sealed success on her fourth match point to register a 6–3 6–4 win.
The 26-year-old, who faces Czech ace Karolina Pliskova next, said:
I slipped and hit my head, and it’s a bit sore. It’s been a busy afternoon playing two matches, we’ve played a lot of tennis and I’m looking forward to recovering the best I can. Johanna Konta
