Katie Boulter was unable to add the scalp of two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova, yet managed to take a set off the iconic Czech star.
The Leicestershire-born player looked to be struggling after trailing 5–3 but, partly due to vocal supporters, stormed back with four games on the bounce to stun her illustrious opponent and capture the set.
Kvitova showed her class by sailing through the second set without dropping a game, but ran out of steam in the decider against a player who will be an intriguing wildcard at next week’s Wimbledon.
Battling Boulter, struggling with a right-elbow injury, was broken just once to fall 5–7 6–0 7–5 to the veteran.
