Wozniacki returns after 10 weeks

Ex-Eastbourne champ happy with break

Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki, who has skipped the past 10 weeks on the WTA Tour, will start her grass court season here at the Aegon Open in Nottingham.

And the former world #1, currently languishing at no.34, faces Turk Cagla Buyukakcay for a Centre Court showdown at 1pm.

The great Dane – an ex-Eastbourne International winner – missed the entire clay court season, including Roland Garros, because of a right thigh injury but is a more relaxed figure that previous seasons.

Devonshire Park-bound Wozniacki explained: ‎”I haven’t been watching any tennis at all as I’ve been so busy doing everything else – ‎it’s been so nice to have a bit of a break.

“I know the results of the French Open, but I’ve just been doing my thing – little bit of normal life and now I’m happy to be ‎back on Tour.

“I’ve so many other interests outside of tennis, so to actually have a chance to do some of that and to be out of a regular routine has been nice.”

“I’m excited to be in Nottingham as it’s my first time here, so it’s a fun and new experience. I’ve never played Buyukakcay before. I’ve seen her around at some tournaments, but I have never really paid that much attention.

“All I do here is to out there and do my best – obviously I would love to win the tournament.”
