"It's nice that there will be one French woman in the final and with a chance to win Eastbourne.” smiled grass court expert Marion Bartoli, shortly after she ended the interest of Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues on court no1 6-1, 6-4.
And Bartoli (pictured) faces
compatriot Virginie Razzano in an all-French semi-final, scheduled to
be
Friday's first Centre Court contest at 11.30am. Razzano sensationally
added the scalp of defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska to
her
cracking surprise win over top seed Elena Dementieva on Centre Court.
"I played very good and I'm very happy because this has been a great tournament for me. I've never lost until I have been beaten and I'm fighting all the time to win.” beamed Razzano following the 7-6(5) 7-5 quarter-final victory. "I'm very happy to win again, it's good for my confidence to be playing well and I've worked hard for this."
Disappointed Radwanska said: " I didn't expect an easy match, I played her here last year and it was 6-4 in the third set but she was too good today. Eastbourne has been good preparation for Wimbledon, I hope I get a good draw there and can do better.”
Bartoli said about the Razzano encounter: "I'm expecting a hard match. I haven't played her for three years and she’s beaten two good players in the last two rounds."
The other semi-final pitches no6 seed Caroline Wozniacki against Aleksandra Wozniak, which could cause problems for the fans, TV viewers and umpire because of the similarity in the two names!
Wozniacki raced to a 56 minute 6-3 6-2 win over Russian Ekaterina Makarova and claimed: “I think I played really well today, I’m really happy about my game. I hope I can win the title, but I always take one match at a time and just enjoy playing."
The Dane said about facing Wozniack: “She's a great player, I played twice against her on the main tour and won both times. But on grass it’s different and you really have to be focused."
And
the extremely tanned Canadian Wozniack (pictured) has become the shock
semi-finalist.
“It’s a surprise because I’m playing so well on grass and I’m starting to really enjoy myself. We only get the chance once a year to play on grass courts so we better make the most of it," she said. "I pretty much played really clean solid tennis today and I’m really happy because with each match. I’ll have to play smart tomorrow."
