Michaël Llodra
June 2010 | by Monticelli
The
French left-hander's serve and volley style is modelled on his hero,
Swedish ace Stefan Edberg, but without the same success at singles
although extremely effective at doubles.
Won four ATP Tour titles and finished runner-up four times to briefly dip into the world's top 40.
Grass is the veteran's favourite surface, having won the 2004 Hertogenbosch tournament in the Netherlands and finished runner-up in the 2005 event.
However, his 2009 grass court season was a mixed bag of results. Llodra reached the second round at Queen's Club in London then made the quarter-final stage at Hertogenbosch. He retired from his second round contest at Wimbledon 2009, and has yet to make the singles third round at SW19.
Won the 2010 Marseille tournament on home soil for his first ATP Tour in two years, after easily seeing off compatriot Julien Benneteau in straight sets.
Reached first round of 2010 French Open.
Realistic changes of winning // With a game suited to grass, will be one of the players that top names will wish to avoid. Could reach the semi-final stage.
