Mayer, the 2004 ATP Tour Newcomer of the Year, has not played on grass
courts since 2007 so is an unlikely champion at Eastbourne.
Stays within the world's top 50 with a string of Challenger titles, but has not lived up to his remarkable 2004 season that included a quarter-final defeat at Wimbledon.
The German missed the French Open with a hamstring injury, so will be seeking plenty of practice before The Championships.
Reached two ATP Finals, both in Poland at the Orange Warsaw Open, but finished runner-up in 2005 and 2008
