Francesca Schiavone, the 2010 French Open champion, will be the player to watch as Qualifying for the 2014 Aegon International kicks off.
The London-based Italian takes on little-known Japanese player Doi Misaki in the 1st Round of Qualifying.
There are five Brits also vying for a place in the main draw. Naomi Broady, as the British #4 was granted an automatic berth in Qualifying and will face Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.
There are four Brits in the draw given wildcards. There are extremely stiff tasks for Samantha Murray and Katie Boulter who will need to up their game if they are shock American Christina McHale and Austrian Tamira Paszek respectively. Paszek won the 2012 Aegon International crown.
Tara Moore will play USA’s Lauren Davis and Jade Windley’s will be tested by Croatian Ajla Tomljanovic.
Saturday is Family Day at the Aegon International, with free tickets available to spectators at the Box Office on arrival. Gates open at 10am with matches are scheduled to start at 10.30am.
