Johanna Konta stunned French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko in a high quality three-set thriller.
The British no.1 reached the quarter-final stage with a 7-5 3-6 6-4 triumph over the talented teenager that finally got the subdued Centre Court crowd cheering.
But it was a battle, as Konta appeared to be in trouble trailing 4-2 in the final set.
The Latvian lost her way serving for a 5-2 lead, failing to win a single point and losing the game by challenging that Konta’s thunderous drive was out when it clipped the line.
Konta was tense serving for victory, fluffing two match points and faced a break point but pulled off the triumph with her third match point courtesy of a gutsy performance.
