Ana Ivanovic, who has struggled to find success at Eastbourne’s Wimbledon warm-up tournament, should be happily married in time for the grass court season this season.
And with love in the air then if she opts to compete at the Aegon International, she may be able to crack her demons at Devonshire Park having last lost to Elena Vesnina.
The former world #1, who shot to fame with a wondrous win to claim the French Open as a teenager, was forced to postpone her December plans to marry German international footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger because of their respective work commitments.
So now the happy couple have planned to exchange vows on 5 June in the bride-to-be’s home city of Belgrade.
Ivanovic is understood to have chosen the date, one day after the Ladies French Open final.
The couple have hired a wedding planner to organise a party for 300 at the Hyatt Regency in Belgrade with Ivanovic’s trio of closest friends on the WTA Tour – Sorana Cirstea, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki – all expected to attend.
With relatively low-key tournaments between the end of the clay court season, culminating at Roland Garros, then Eastbourne’s Aegon International is the ideal preparation for Wimbledon so Ivanovic may well be back at Devonshire Park only this time presented to the Centre Court crowd as Mrs Schweinsteiger.
After the ceremony in Serbia, Ana and Bastian will organize the second wedding party in Germany.
