Victoria Azarenka, who skipped the 2014 French Open because of a right foot injury, has taken a wildcard to Eastbourne’s Wimbledon warm-up event.
The Belarussian world #8, who has competed as Devonshire Park in the past with little success, has experienced a torrid injury plagued season so far and played only three tournaments this year.
And the ex-world #1 was last in action at the Indian Wells event, when she limped during a shock 1st Round defeat to little-known American Lauren Davis in California, USA.
Azarenka said about withdrawing from Roland Garros: “I am working very hard on my recovery and hopefully I will be able to resume practice soon.”
The two-time Australian Open champion added: “I’ve worked hard to rehabilitate my injury and to get fit for my return to the Tour.”
Her practice for The Championships at SW19 will see Azarenka in the firing line in what is already a very strong field in the ladies draw.
